15 Oct Support My Kickstarter For My Debut Fiction Novel
I’m sorry for my long absence. I will explain it at the bottom of the post. Also, I’m sorry if this is a duplicate post because you’ve also subscribed to may author website.
Now to the business on hand.
Long story short, because of legislated book bans in the USA of Young Adult novels–and kids’ lit in general–by trans authors and/or with trans characters, publishers are no longer buying such books. As a result, after being out on submission for 2.5 years with my debut fiction CHASING CARS, my agent and I have pulled the book and I am now doing a Kickstarter to fund the cost of producing it.
CHASING CARS is a coming-of-age novel, based on my experienced, of an autistic pregnant trans teen boy in the British Columbian foster care system. It contains themes of bodily autonomy, consent, reproductive justice and trans rights; themes that are desperately needed during this period of history. It features a vulnerable, authentic voice, a friendship to rival any romance, and epistolary elements that explore what the protagonist struggles to say out loud. It is at turns both heartbreaking and heartwarming.
There are multiple ways you can support me, including ways that don’t cost money and are just as valuable.
The first way–and it costs nothing–is to share the Kickstarter on your social media. And share it often! Set a reminder to share it a couple times a week.
It’s not enough to share it only once. Most people who follow you on social media will miss it when you post it. I’ve been talking about this Kickstarter for months now and every time, it’s the first time many of my followers have heard of it.
The second way is to email the Kickstarter to people who you think would be particularly interested. Make sure they don’t miss it!
And the third way to support the Kickstarter is to pledge. Because the Kickstarter is in Canadian dollars, my American pals get a super great deal. There are amazing rewards. I won’t get into the details here because you get all of that on the Kickstarter page.
Pledging early is super important! It not only helps to create momentum and buzz, but it also helps to catch the Kickstarter algorithm that decides featured projects. Featured projects have better funding success.
That’s it. That’s my ask! If after you head to the Kickstarter page you have questions, be sure to ask them there and I’ll add the answer to the FAQ page!
P.S.: Coniah Edgar is me. I’m using a pen name to separate my fiction from my non-fiction.
P.P.S.: My absence explained: I have severe nerve damage to both arms that requires some major surgery to relocate both ulnar nerves. Without this surgery, I will lose function of both hands. The signs of permanent impairment have begun. In order to avoid it, I have been told to limit all repetitive motion until after said surgeries. This includes crochet and typing. I have not finished any projects in a very long time. I don’t know when the surgeries will happen. They will be done back-to-back and require a total of 4 months of recovery. Oof. Because I’m so limited in how often I can crochet and type, I’m not sure when I’ll have the next project to post. Thanks for sticking around until then!
