Indeed. I get what you’re saying.

As I said in the review, Scalzi normally doesn’t introduce something unless it is relevant to the overall story. But, there may be a first time for everything.

We’ll have to wait and see how the Schmidt family is involved. Hell, it could even be the staff who are involved, tired of this whole class division thing. Now, wouldn’t that be something?

I like that you think Schmidt’s dad may be involved in the overall plot–that would make this a lot more relevant.

I felt dissatisfied reading this (even though I like Schmidt, don’t mind him getting a day in the spotlight, didn’t care about a lack of sci-fi, whatever) because there wasn’t really a plot to the chapter. Hart gets offered the family business, Hart doesn’t even care about choosing the family business for a second–there’s no conflict about it, no surprise, no drama. So why was this important? I hope we find out.

I too wondered about the recap bits in Ep. 5, if they would have been there had this not been planned as an episodic release. It worked well to have a bit of a recap after this many weeks of reading but I think it would seem a tad superfluous had I been reading this as one complete novel.

I liked that this episode felt like it was gathering the previous episodes together, taking a breath as you say, and then still provided a few nice twists as far as what was happening with the crew. I’ve very fond of this group of characters and enjoy the weeks where we return to them.

My favorite mythical creature has always been the European style dragon. As a kid I saw these as the ultimate Pterodactyl and T-rex hybrid with the ability to breathe fire! How could I not love these creatures? The fascination has continued into my adulthood.

My favourite mythical creature has to be Sleipnir, the eight-legged stallion of Odin, best horse among men and gods. It was the only good thing born out of Loki and it carries Odin trough the sky. Tips for surviving the zombie apocalypse?
1 – Dress up like a zombie so you blend in. You can hit up the local golf course, swing by the liquor store and generally enjoy a solo lifestyle. Hey, it worked for Bill Murray.

2 – Every now and then stop and look behind you. You never know if there is a zombie behind you or not if you don’t look.

3 – Keep a journal put don’t make it accurate. That way if the zombies are wiped out your journal may confuse future archaeologists. You get your laughs where you can.

Head somewhere with freezing temperatures. Researchers have speculated that zombies will freeze in such weather leaving you with humorous zomcicles to decorate your lawn with instead of flesh eating monsters you need to flee from. At least until summer.

Guns run out of ammo, so they’re only a short-term fix.

GTFO urban areas. Get somewhere that’s as rural as you can (at least 2 days walking distance for anyone), which has a veggie garden and local fauna. Sharpen ALL the things and build your defences (a stone tower? awesome idea). If it can be on a hilltop/somewhere defensible, that’s good. Take your cues from ancient civilisations’ wars, and how they dealt with the issue.

New Zealand is good, especially on the South Island. Canada’s probably even better.

Alternatively, find and dissuade/kill the researchers (and the company hiring them) who’re working on the virus which will cause the outbreak
