Win 1 of 3 Copies of DemonWars: First Heroes by R. A. Salvatore

Demonwars_FCOn February 18, 2014, Tor Books is releasing a new special edition of the first two titles in R. A. Salvatore’s Saga of the First King series: DemonWars: First HeroesIf you live in Canada or the U.S., you could win one of three copies.

If you are unfamiliar with the first two titles in Savlatore’s First King series, below is a brief synopsis:

In The Highwayman, Salvatore takes his readers back to his signature world of Corona many years before the DemonWars, introducing a fascinating new hero. The roads are unsafe to travel; goblins and bloodthirsty Powries search out human prey. Two religions struggle fiercely for control. Only the Highwayman travels freely, his sword casting aside both Powries and soldiers. The people need a savior, but is the Highwayman on a mission of mercy…or vengeance?

In The Ancient, Bransen Garibond is tricked into journeying across the Gulf of Corona to the wild lands of Vanguard, where he is pressed into service in a desperate war. If Branson fails, all who live on the lake will perish, and all of northern Honce will fall under the shadow of the merciless and vengeful Samhaists.

If you don’t want to wait for pre-order, and if you live in Canada or the United States, three Geeky Pleasures readers will win a copy of this book, courtesy of Tor Books.

  1. I started reading Salvatore back in high school with the Drizzt series, and immediately fell in love. Over the years I have a few books from that and other series of his that have become so worn from reading (or lending out to friends) that I’ve purchased new copies.
Besides, a spare copy of a book is never a bad thing.

  2. He is right up the with Weis & Hickman for me and one of the reasons I couldn’t initially get into Jordan when I tried after high school. Now if only we could get a premium cable channel to green-light a series based on his work…now that would be truly epic.

  3. I’ve never read any Salvatore. If this is a good book for new readers to give him a try and enter this particular fantasy world, then count this as an entry. If not, well, then discount my entry should it be selected by your random number generator.

As for my favorite fantasy race, that varies significantly based on their presentation, but conceptually, I love the Fair Folk, especially if they’re divided into the Seelie/Unseelie structure.

  4. What a cool giveaway! I was just reshelving my books (after taking months to repaint them) and realized I have almost two entire shelves full of R.A. Salvatore. His works have consistently been favorites at my house, and I’d love to win this one! My older son is just discovering this author, too.

My favorite fantasy race… would probably have to be hobbits. I’m short, a reluctant adventurer, and have slightly hairy feet myself, so I’ve always identified with Bilbo and Frodo.

  5. My son is an absolute *freak* for R A Salvatore. Never having read his work myself (being basically a non-reader) I can’t say whether I’d enjoy this book, but I sure would love to win it for my son. He’d be over the moon (perhaps a different moon than the one I see in my sky?)

  6. I haven’t ever read any Salvatore but he was on my list. After reading the synopsis and other comments I think its time to begin sooner than later.

  7. I still have “The Crystal Shard” from 1988 it’s one of the few early TSR that I kept. I’ve always liked half-elves as RPG characters and it looks like I’m going to be writing about one for at least the next year. :)

  8. Congratulations to Bonnie, Thaim, and Paul!

You all should have an email with more information. If you haven’t received it, please check your spam folder.

Thanks, everyone, for entering! Good luck next time.
