Geek Of The Week June 1, 2012

This week, I’m all about Redshirts by John Scalzi. The book is KICKASS AWESOMETASTIC SQUEE PERFECT! Keeping that in mind, it is only natural that this week’s Geek of the Week go to Jonathan Coulton’s song — which John Scalzi commissioned specifically for the book — Redshirts. Having read the book, I can also tell you the song is also perfect! Also, having read the book, the song causes a bit of a malfunction in my emotion chip.

Now, the song on its own is awesome enough. But what is even more awesome is the following fan video of Redshirts, created by Trekpropguy. It. Is. GLORIOUS!

If that is not enough Redshirts awesome for you, here is John Scalzi covering the song on his ukulele.

Fab and hilarious, no? If that is still not enough for you, then how about the plain, old video with nothing more than a placeholder and Jonathan Coulton‘s voice? Jonathan will be performing Redshirts during all of his concerts throughout June. If you happen to be catching his concert tonight in Boston, John Scalzi would like you to record it. The song is now available for purchase through Jonathan Coulton’s store for $1.

Don’t forget to read my review of Redshirts by John Scalzi, a review that John called, “Possibly the Most Squeetastic Review I Will Ever Receive.” Yeah, that was a bit of a humble brag. I was worried about posting a review in such a fashion, so it more than pleases me that it was received so well by John.

Don’t forget, I am giving away two copies of Redshirts courtesy of Tor.

ALSO, don’t forget, Redshirts by John Scalzi will be available on June 5, 2012. You can pre-order now on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Indigo Books & Music. You can purchase it Tuesday, June 5, 2012, where ever books are sold. You can read the first five chapter on Tor.com. You can download the first four chapters, free, at Amazon, Kobo Books and Barnes & Noble.

Have a great weekend!
